toddler art: day 1

First of all... YEAH PACKERS! Bring it on playoffs!

Ok, now that that's out of my system.. Evan started a toddler art class last week. I don't remember where I got the idea, but one day I saw someone say they took their toddler to a messy art class so I decided to Google for something similar in my area. I found an art class for 2 - 3 1/2 year-olds at the local fine arts center. Since Evan didn't really seem to enjoy his multi-sports class in the fall, I thought maybe he would like this a little better and it would help me get ideas of what kinds of projects we could do at home. So far, so good! Evan's one of the only boys there, so to say he is a little more rambunctious than all the girls is an understatement, but that's okay because he gives hugs.

Last week in class, the kids did the following:

-practiced writing the first letter of their names in marker
-practiced writing again with a Sharpie
-made the first letter of their names with a pipe cleaner
-wrote the rest of their name on wooden shapes
-used Cray-pas to color around their name and then onto a thicker board
-strung beads onto a pipe cleaner (Evan's FAVORITE part!)
-shaped the pipe cleaner
-had their names and shapes glued onto their board by Miss Jenny

And HERE is Evan's final result:
He did a really great job, don't ya think? Okay, I helped quite a bit and I even had to learn a little patience in the class. He sure is a stubborn one. I always let him pick the colors and always asked him to make the decisions first. If he didn't want to, he didn't want to. Sometimes he really just wanted to move on or had trouble following instructions and wanted to do something different, but he is still little and getting used to it.

Anyway, I thought I'd share our toddler art projects on here in order to get YOU inspired to do more art projects with your kiddos at home and to think about Googling an art class in your area. Totally worth it so far here.

Anyway, I'm off for the night to do some easy crafting and watch the Bachelor.

Hey Jaimie,

Not sure what you're making (although it looks quite fun) or just how big those many circles are that you're cutting out, but Michael's craft has a huge selection of paper punches and cutters that might make it a ton faster and easier. Plus, if you print off one of their coupons online for 40% off, the most you'd need to spend is like $12 for a cutter that can be set from 1-9 inch diameter circles. I just got one and LOVE it.
Either way, enjoy your crafting!
