just dreaming // san francisco

California will always be on my mind. When I was 19, I was about a day away from moving out there. And obviously that didn't happen! Now I'm on the wrong coast, but thankful to be at the beach. 2,840 miles away.

you feel small there

I never feel more alive than when I am at the beach. Everything is so serene and beautiful.
The way the sun shines on the waves and glows a neon pink.
The way the tide creates these wonderful patterns in the sand.
How unpredictable the waves are.
How you can look both ways and see nothing but infinity.
How you can look straight out and see the vastness of the world.
You feel really small there. And it makes me feel alive.

our fourth

the 4th of july was one of the best days i've had recently.
i had to spend most of the day alone with the kids, so i set out to let them have lots of fun.
we put out the pool, water table & sprinkler right away.
they played for 2 hours, then we had lunch, played again and had popsicles!
we spent the afternoon relaxing, napping and working on tracing letters.
we picked papa up from work and went to the beach for the fireworks.
we could see fireworks in both directions.
it was so different than what we are used to. but really fun.
then back to home and work we went.
some neighbors down the street were setting off huge fireworks when me and the kids got home.
so we sat in the driveway and watched for a little while.
then off to bed.
up early again for swim lessons in the morning.

beach day

since moving to myrtle beach, we've been at the beach pretty much every week. we got a pass to the state parks, so we head about 25 minutes away to huntington beach state park. the beach is so clean, there are lifeguards on duty and the water stays pretty shallow. sick waves too. wish i could surf. (bucket list) the kids are super obsessed with the sand and the water. but what i love about the beach is that there are no distractions. we can just be together. no phones, no computers, no tv, no worries. you can think clearly there in the wide open air. mila and i stood there holding hands, waves crashing at our tootsies and i saw her look out at the ocean. i looked out too and i said to her "there's so much out there for you."

it's out there.
